This soul cakes recipe is extremely easy to make and bare bones. You can add dried fruit, nuts, and spices to it to suit the season or whatever you have in your pantry at the time. It’s very easily customized or it’s simply delicious as is. It’s totally up to you 🙂
- 6 Oz. Butter – cubed
- 6 Oz. Sugar
- 3 Egg Yolks
- 1 lb. Flour
- Milk to mix the batter sufficiently
- Optional: Dried fruit, nuts, or spices such as Pumpkin Spice, Cinnamon, or whatever spices you like!
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Cream the butter, sugar and egg yolks together in a bowl. Set aside.
In another bowl, sift flour with spices and mix in the butter, sugar and egg yolk mixture. Add enough milk to make into a soft dough.
If you choose to add fruit, nuts, etc., add them in now!
Roll the dough out flat and use a coffee cup or cookie cutter to cut out little cakes (or rounds)
Cut little crosses, symbols, or sigils into the dough, if you like, then place the cakes on a greased (or lined) baking sheet.
Bake for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown.
Cool on a wire rack (or plate) and enjoy!
